Round & About

Vous vous souvenez de l’annonce impromptue de la ‘Nappie Fair’ dans un de mes messages datant de quelques semaines? Et bien cela provenait du petit magasine Round & About, the Monthly Magazine, Delivered to 150 325 Homes by the Royal Mail to Postcodes across Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinhamshire.

J’ai décidé de vous faire une chronique mensuelle des faits saillants retrouvé dans ce petit ramassis de choses toutes plus inutiles les unes que les autres…mais tellement ‘angliches’ que c’en est tordant.

Alors, sans plus tarder, j’y vais de ma sélection pour novembre 2009 :

- On commence en force avec une recette : The Victoria Steak
o ‘We decided to try one of Alwin’s grand-mother’s recipes exactly as written in her cookbook and chose Victoria Steak, presumably named after Queen Victoria’. On parle ici d’un steak bouilli…beurk!

- On continue avec les petites annonces :
o Stevenson choral society is looking for a pianist for their Thursday rehearsals and some Saturday concerts. Des intéressés?
o How to have an Eco-Christmas: Everyone is invited to bring along their own bright ideas to share at 7:30pm in St-Ethelwold’s House. A donation of £3 per person would be appreciated to cover the costs.
o ‘The rise of real bread’ is holding a one day celebration of local artisan and community bakers as St-Anne’s College, Oxford between 10 and 5 on November 14th. They will be defining what makes great bread and discussing hoe to support farmers and bakers in becoming truly local, using Oxfordshire wheat and selling at local markets.

- Et nous terminons avec un petit délice d'authenticité anglaise:
The top 10 afternoon tea walks.
Il s’agit ici du numéro 10 : Rectory Farn, Stanton St-John. 16 étapes pour ‘simple fun for all the Family (F majuscule dans le texte et non une faute de frappe). An easy 90 minute stroll through picturesque landscapes...Inspirant non?
